Sliding Scale Therapy

An Ecosystem Model

We offer our sliding scale on an honour-based system, by and for community members at multiple intersections of marginalization. Read more about how we came up with our Ecosystem Tiers here.

What is an ‘ecosystem model’?
Our ‘ecosystem model’ means people book in at a rate that is sustainable for them. Folks who have more means (extended health benefits or resources) book in for a conversation at a higher tier (often the Full Cost or Pay-it-Forward). People who don't have extended benefits book in at a sustainable cost, often at the Access tiers. Sometimes, people gain (or lose) benefits or financial stability. Whatever the change, folks tend to contribute as much as they can when they know their money goes into an ecosystem of dignity.

The following rates are for individual counselling conversations—for relationship counselling, this runs a little higher.

Sliding Scale Guidance

The following description is borrowed and adapted from Alexis J. Cunningfolk:

  • The Pay-it-Forward range is price that is a small percentage above the actual operating costs of a session. This supports access for people who are needing to pay lower than actual cost.

  • The Full Cost range is the actual operating costs of a session. This includes administrative work, client contact, resource gathering, and more.

  • The Community-Assisted Access range is intended for those who are able to meet their basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income. Paying full price for a session might require the sacrifice of something else, but will not create hardship. The lower end of this scale is intended for those who struggle to meet basic needs and paying full price for a session would create hardship in some way.

Next Steps

Now that you’ve made it to the bottom of this (admittedly long and granular) page, what’s next?

  • If you’re considering individual therapeutic conversations, you might want to book a Free Intro Call with one of our practitioners.

  • If you’re curious about what the differences between 60-minute, 90-minute, and 115-minute conversations can be, you might want to head over to our Therapeutic Offerings page.

  • You even might be more confused than when you started (oh no!) and would like to ask some questions to a real person. If that’s the case, please head over to our contact page and send us a message and we’ll be happy to assist.
